The ask was to produce a 5 day back-to-back mountain bike race via remote production in Switzerland to be remote broadcasted on digital platforms live from Helium’s Cape Town studio with all on-route footage to be captured and sent from Switzerland to Cape Town 12 876,9 km away. Challenge accepted.

RESULTS
Full Remote broadcast for 10 – 12 hrs for five back-to-back days.

WHAT WE DID

This was no small ask and it would require an innovative production approach. Helium started by setting up a centralised production studio in Cape Town where all remote feeds from across the Swiss Alp mountain would be sent to the director and team of cycling experts to add final details, commentary and graphics elements before distributing across all channels. The production was further enhanced by having live feeds directly from mountain bikes, to drones in air with following the race.
These bikes were equipped with two-way communication and world-renowned mountain bikers to provide in-depth race insights and tactics for the full duration of racing. All of this was achieved by having a small technical support team in Switzerland main production team back in Cape Town. This innovation allowed Helium to have on-route coverage via E-Bikes, drones and full commentary from bikes onroute to in studio and added Tracking of riders to live graphics to allow fans to have a POV mountain biking experience.
